After reading the reviews here and in some guidebooks, I was very pleasantly surprised by this luau! We weren't expecting much - we've done great luaus on other islands before, and decided to go here...

The night of our luau at the Hyatt, it was held down on the grass next to the beach where they otherwise hold weddings - a truly gorgeous setting. The atmosphere was full of aloha - the servers were excellent considering that they weren't working for tips, and kept refilling our glasses with whatever we wanted (great mai tais). The show may not have been the most authentic (it was Polynesian rather than just Hawaiian) but the young performers were all eager to entertain, and truly enjoyed sharing their culture with visitors. Everyone was having a great time, and it was easy to meet your neighbors.

The food was also a great surprise. For a buffet, the quality was excellent. I loved the grilled fish and sweet potatoes, and the choice and quality of desserts was divine (keep me away from taking another slice of that macadamia nut pie and the coconut cake, please!!).

All in all, a very pleasant experience if you're able to go on a night it's held outside!
